Mong-Masoor Dal (yellow-Red lentil)

Very common Dal - Chawal (lentil with rice) every house hold made this... in their very own style... today I am sharing my family recipe...we need

split red lentil (masoor dal) 1/2 cup
split green gram (mong daal(yellow)) 1/2 cup
salt 1 tsp
red chili pd 1 1/2 tsp
turmeric pd 1/4 pd
garlic paste 1 tsp

for Fried garnish - Tarka:
oil 3 -4 tbsp
onion sliced 3 - 4 tbsp
button red chilies 5-6
cumin seeds 1 tsp

First in a bowl take both pulses...wash them properly 2-3 times and soak them ... give it atleast 15 - 30 minutes...

soaking pulses always reduce cooking time

wash again... add in a pot, now add salt, garlic paste, chili pd, and turmeric powder and water (around 2-3 cups) and let it cook covered on low heat

when both pulses get combined...and you get a required consistency... dish out

separately make fried garnish... heat oil add sliced onion and whole red chilies... fry till onion change its color... add cumin seeds mix and pour over cooked daal immediately..

Serve with fried garnish and with boiled rice.
