These easy crumble bars combine two of my favorite things, gooey, melty chocolate and rich, buttery shortbread, into a satisfying layered treat.
Found this recipe at the back of Walmart brand Great Value Condensed milk, they turned out great and hit all that spots!
They can easily be made the day before you need to serve them as they keep well covered in foil at room temperature. This simple recipe requires no eggs, and if you want to skip nuts, the bars are delectable without them as well. Chocolate chips and condensed milk can be microwaved for 2 minutes instead of cooked on the stovetop to save time.
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 can condensed milk
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided (1 cup for fudge rest is for cumb topping)
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 cup walnuts, optional
These bars are decadent enough for a special occasion dessert, but they are also a comforting snack after a long, busy day, served alongside a cup of coffee or tea. Or as Holiday season is upon us, you can package them nicely and send to your kids school teachers, co-workers or to neighbors along with other treats or gift card.
