Budget Friendly Holiday Gift Ideas for Teachers, Coworkers & Neighbors (Simple, Thoughtful & Meaningful) by morEwish

The holiday season is a time to spread kindness, appreciation, and warmth, even if you don’t celebrate the holidays yourself. If you’re looking for budget friendly holiday gift ideas for school teachers, coworkers, neighbors, or colleagues, this easy DIY gift idea is perfect.

I recently put together these holiday hot cocoa gift cups, and they are simple, affordable, and heartfelt, without being over the top.

What You’ll Need for This Holiday Gift Idea

Holiday-themed cups (I picked up these cute ones from Target)

Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa packets

Ghirardelli Peppermint and Mint Chocolate Squares

(I also added candy canes for a festive touch)

Optional add-ons:

Gift cards

Homemade hot cocoa mix

Marshmallows or chocolate spoons

A small handwritten note or printed letter

💡 Side note: While browsing cups, I found the cutest Marshmallow Mug and honestly… I couldn’t resist 😃 I grabbed one just for myself because sometimes you deserve a little cozy treat too!

About the Letter: Thoughtful, Not Preachy

I want to emphasize something important about the letter included with these gifts:

✨ It is not meant to preach or convert.

✨ It is purely informational and respectful.

Since we are a Muslim family, we don’t celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah, but we absolutely respect these occasions and love to wish everyone Happy Holidays.

For Neighbors

The note gently shares that Jesus (peace be upon him) and Mary (peace be upon her) hold a very special place in Islam. Islam teaches us to respect all prophets, and Muslims believe in Jesus, Moses, and Muhammad (peace be upon them all). It’s shared simply as information to build understanding and connection, not to persuade.

For Teachers & Colleagues

The letter is more gratitude focused, expressing appreciation for their hard work, kindness, and support throughout the year without any religious messaging. A simple “thank you” can mean so much.

Instagram Reel:

Why This Gift Idea Works So Well

✔ Budget friendly and easy to assemble

✔ Perfect for teachers, coworkers, neighbors, and school staff

✔ Respectful of different faiths and traditions

✔ Customizable based on your comfort and budget

✔ Thoughtful without being excessive

You can scale this gift up by adding a gift card or keep it simple with cocoa and candy. Either way, it feels intentional and kind.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need to celebrate the holidays to spread joy during this season. These holiday cocoa gift cups are a beautiful way to show appreciation, kindness, and respect while staying true to your values.

Small gestures truly leave lasting impressions.

How can I forgot to show you my Marshmallow Mug 😍💖

Then for neighbors, co-workers and girls school teachers, I used the same mug and bookmark with Betty crocker mug cake treat boxes with some dates and candies. And wrapped ir exactly how I did with tray.

Muslim Businesses around us! For Ramadan, Eid and more - review by morEwish

Every year when it comes to decorating my house or to make gift baskets and favor boxes in Ramadan or for Eid, I plan some DIY crafty decor and bring nifty ideas to the table. This year I decided to mix handmade/homemade pieces with other creative products available in market to enjoy this Ramadan. Reason behind this thought was simple - I wanted to help Muslim entrepreneurs around. This time of the year they all bring out best of their products and it is for and you and for me, we are there target audience!

Now to start with, there are big ventures to small businesses, some offer big ticket super fancy decor pieces while there are some who just offer digital file, so you just print at home. Today I am sharing few of them, whom I interacted with and recommend them to you guys as well!

Dates are essential part of Ramadan, Muslims around the world, follow a religious tradition of serving dates at their iftar table, to break their fast with them.

This girl Aminah have Chicago base business called Dates and co where she handcraft Medjool dates, offer 8 different kinds of filling like Nutella, peanut butter crunch, cookies and cream etc and then dip them in Belgium chocolate! She was kind enough to drop off a sample box, which we all loved and devoured them! Especially my girls are not a fan of dates, they loved them as well. Aminah have her Instagram business page Dates&co, they ship all over US.

Then I have this business to introduce to you, its Happy Street Store owned by Fakhera, it's a one stop shop of everything Ramadan and Eid, Islamic decor, books and more. I loved this beautiful serving platter at her shop and ordered. Can’t wait to use it for iftar gatherings ( 🤷🏻‍♀️ as if), I know I can use it for something like iftar charcuterie or just to display dates or even snack on iftar inshAllah!

Now I would love to mention Up a Notch gifts here own by Kiran. It's definitely a one stop shop for all your gift giving needs. She offers cute and cost-effective way to add personalize touch to any party favors and candy wrappers for any occasion.

Ellmyra is planning to fast for the first time this Ramadan inshAllah so I ordered these cute candy wrappers at Up a notch store, (we definitely love the pun). And Ellmyra can't wait to share these favors on her Roza khushai inshAllah.
Kiran was sweet enough to add some of her Eid Mubarak stickers and Mubarak cards in my package.

Now here I am talking about New Tradition! This is newly launched business New Tradition Store is offering something unique, which was missing for Muslim children here in North America and something I personally always wished for.

They have these beautiful Muslim and Ramadan themed inflatables with more outdoor products to offer. The day we received this package, the joy and excitement was real! (Here I am not talking about girls 😉). These inflatables are up in our front yard and are definitely making our house ready for Ramadan! These are great for Dawah first of all, one of the dog walker just yesterday wished Ovais Happy Ramadan, while he was working in yard. It's a great way to share the joy and excitement and we are creating New Traditions all the way!!

This company New Tradition Store is owned by sweet couple, she was kind enough to offer me more discount when I was placing order. May Allah give them more ajar and give barkah in all their endeavors!

Here I would like to mention two more businesess Sweet Greeting Gifts, owned by two sisters they offer memorable gift ideas all round year. And Crateful where she offers thematic cratefuls with different elements for any holiday and ocassion.

In this post I just mention very few businesses which I came across, there are many and everyone is offering something unique in their own way! And this post is just a small effort from my side to help fellow Muslim entrepreneurs.

Chocolate Crumble Bars چاکلیٹ کرمبل بارس recipe by morEwish

These easy crumble bars combine two of my favorite things, gooey, melty chocolate and rich, buttery shortbread, into a satisfying layered treat.
Found this recipe at the back of Walmart brand Great Value Condensed milk, they turned out great and hit all that spots!

These bars are decadent enough for a special occasion dessert, but they are also a comforting snack after a long, busy day, served alongside a cup of coffee or tea. Or as Holiday season is upon us, you can package them nicely and send to your kids school teachers, co-workers or to neighbors along with other treats or gift card.

They can easily be made the day before you need to serve them as they keep well covered in foil at room temperature. This simple recipe requires no eggs, and if you want to skip nuts, the bars are delectable without them as well. Chocolate chips and condensed milk can be microwaved for 2 minutes instead of cooked on the stovetop to save time.

Baklava بکلاوا recipe by morEwish

Baklava is a delicious phyllo pastry popular dessert in Middle Eastern countries. Baklava, layers of crisp phyllo dough alternate with a sugary spiced nut mixture, and the whole thing is then soaked in fragrant sweet syrup made with honey and lemon. This baklava is flaky, crisp and tender!

Baklava is a little tedious to make, but I’ve shared all of my best tips and advise to ensure you are successful in making yours. You will love that this recipe can be made several days in advance and keeps beautifully at room temperature for at least a week.

The tissue paper-thin phyllo dough is fragile and breaks easily if not handled properly, but the end product is forgiving so don’t fret if it all falls apart

So for the phyllo dough, I did the layers like this: 10, 5, 5, 5, 5, 10, with walnuts in between each of those sets.

10 buttered phyllo sheets, 3/4 cup nut mixture,
5 buttered phyllo sheets, 3/4 cup nut mixture,
5 buttered phyllo sheets, 3/4 cup nut mixture,
5 buttered phyllo sheets, 3/4 cup nut mixture,
5 buttered phyllo sheets, 3/4 cup nut mixture
10 buttered phyllo sheets and butter the top.

Let baklava sit 4-6 hours or overnight at room temperature for the syrup to penetrate and soften the layers. Garnish baklava with finely chopped nuts or drizzle with melted chocolate. You can easily store Baklava at room temperature, covered for 1 to 2 weeks.

Pistachios are also very popular nut for baklva, and you can do a blend of any nut you wish. However, I really think walnuts have the best taste and texture.

Nutella Chocolate Caramel Cookies 🍪 نٹیلا چاکلیٹ کریمل کوکیز recipe by morEwish

These Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies are perfectly chewy, and loaded with chocolate and caramel chips. You’ll love this easy twist on your favorite cookie!

As we and are heading towards the peak season for cookie baking, you will love to bake these and share again and again. These are simple and fancy — baked with a lot of heart and chocolate.

These cookies are probably a little different than what you are used to. I used a boxed cake mix in this recipe instead of dry ingredients. If you haven’t made cookies with a cake mix, you’re in for a real treat! Using the cake mix and Nutella in these chocolate cookies keeps them very moist!

I saw this recipe the other day on Six Sister's Stuff Instagram, and I know I had to give it a try.
As they suggested - These cookies are a little sticky due to the caramel bits that are in them. To keep the cookies from sticking to the pan,  line the pan with parchment paper.
Another option is to leave the caramel out of the cookies until they are scooped onto the pan. You can insert a few caramel pieces into the top of each cookie to keep them off the bottom. Not only does this help with sticking, but it makes sure each bite is full of delicious melted caramel.

Me and kids loved these with a cup of milk. You also try them out and maybe you'll find new favorites to add to your holiday cookie trays.

Ingredients:

1 (15.25 ounce) box moist cake mix (preferably Devils food cake)
1 cup Nutella

1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 cup milk chocolate chips

Kalakand Recipe 🎁| Instant version for Eid 🎉 by morEwish

Updated on April 3rd, 2025

Whenever I see the word instant, it immediately grabs my attention! Any recipe that cuts down on cooking time without sacrificing taste is a blessing. After all, the less time spent in the kitchen, the more time we can enjoy with family at the dinner table.
With Eid just around the corner, I’m excited to share an easy and instant Kalakand recipe with you all!

What is Kalakand?

Kalakand is a traditional South Asian dessert made with milk and sugar, known for its rich, moist, and melt-in-the-mouth texture. While the authentic method takes hours of slow cooking, my version gives you the same delicious taste in a fraction of the time—with just three basic ingredients!

Why You’ll Love This Instant Kalakand

✔ Quick & Easy – No long hours of stirring!
✔ Minimal Ingredients – Only 3 key ingredients.
✔ Perfect for Eid & Special Occasions – A crowd-pleaser!
✔ Rich & Creamy – Just like the traditional version.

How to Make Instant Kalakand

1. Prepare Paneer: Boil the milk, add lemon juice, and stir until the milk curdles. Strain and rinse with cold water to remove the lemony taste. Squeeze out excess water.

2. Cook the Mixture: In a pan, heat ghee and add the prepared paneer. Pour in condensed milk and mix well.

3. Add Flavor: Stir in cardamom powder for a traditional aroma.

4. Set & Cool: Cook until the mixture thickens, then spread it evenly on a greased tray. Let it cool completely before cutting into pieces.

5. Garnish & Serve: Optionally, top with chopped nuts for added crunch. Enjoy!

Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Bread recipe | Holiday gift idea for Neighbors, Teachers and Colleagues by morEwish

Handmade gifts are the best kind, particularly when they're edible. They're so much more personal, and no one can resist a homemade fresh baked bread, especially when its prettily packaged. This year for our neighbors, girls teachers and for colleagues I decided to make this Cinnamon Chocolate chip bread which is easy to make, thoughtful and delicious.

Swirled with cinnamon sugar, topped with more, and dotted with teeny tiny chocolate chips. It’s almost like cake – soft, tender, and moist. I mean common, look at that deep, dark ripple of cinnamon!

Video Tutorial:

Your kitchen is going to smell like a bakery. There is just nothing like the warm, sweet scent of cinnamon bread baking in the oven especially on chilly mornings! Similar to how banana bread and carrot cake’s flavor intensifies overnight, this bread is just the same. You could use this recipe to make muffins, too.

Ingredients:

Bread
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 large egg, at room temperature
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup buttermilk (Or make your own with 1 tablespoon vinegar and 1 cup milk)
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cinnamon-Swirl
1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/3 cup granulated sugar

Mocha Caramel Bites 🍬 | Hostess gift 🎁 ideas by morEwish

What better gift to give this holiday season than one that can be eaten? This small, thoughtful gift is a good way to thank a hostess

Graham cracker crust with gooey caramel center and yummy chocolate coffee topping, I know this explanation is enough and i bet you are drooling now!

Video Tutorial:

Ingredients:

Crust:
Vegetable cooking spray
12 whole (6 ounces) cinnamon graham crackers, crumbled or 2 cups cinnamon graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 sticks (6 ounces) unsalted butter, melted

Caramel:
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 stick (4 ounces) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
1 tablespoon water

Chocolate Sauce:
2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 3/4 teaspoons instant espresso powder

For the crust:
Position an oven rack in the middle of the oven. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line the bottom of a 9-inch round springform pan with parchment or waxed paper. You can use rectangular shaped one for nice square pieces
Spray the paper and the sides of the pan with cooking spray.
In the bowl of a food processor, combine the graham crackers and sugar. Process until the mixture resembles fine bread crumbs.
Add the melted butter and blend until the mixture forms into clumps. Spread the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan, pressing gently to form an even layer.
Place the pan on a baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the crust is golden. Cool for 15 minutes.

For the caramel:
While the crust is cooling, in a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of cream, butter, sugar, and water.
Stir over medium heat until the mixture is smooth. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook, without stirring, until a candy thermometer registers 240 degrees F, about 5 to 7 minutes.
Now for those of you who doesn't have candy thermometer. Drop some candy into cold water. If the candy forms a soft, flexible ball it is at a temperature of 235-240 degrees Fahrenheit or at the soft ball stage, and that's what we need for this recipe.
Carefully pour the caramel over the warm crust. Cool for 20 minutes. Freeze until firm, about 10 minutes.

For the chocolate layer: Combine the chocolate chips and cream in a small bowl and place over a pan of simmering water.
Stir until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth, about 3 minutes. Whisk in the espresso powder.
Remove the springform pan from the freezer. Pour the chocolate mixture over the caramel layer and smooth with a spatula.
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour until firm.
Allow the layers to come to room temperature, about 30 minutes. Using a warm, slightly wet knife, carefully cut around the edges of the chocolate layer.
Release the side of the pan and remove the paper from the bottom. Cut into 1 1/2 by 1/2-inch bars and store airtight in a covered plastic container.
