Dal Karhai دال کڑہاۂی recipe by morEwish





Daal Karhai, when I heard this name for the first time. I was in awe. My whole family love karhai gosht, made with any kind of meat but Daal Karahi sounds interesting.
Finding new legumes and lentils recipe is my all time task, so trying/recreating daal karhai was must.








I used Chana daal also known as bengal gram. These lentils have a sweet and nutty taste. The dal is cooked to al dente, then cooked further with the flavoring ingredients like tomato, garlic, ginger and spices almost like we cook karhai with meat. I used wok (karhai) to cook and to serve as well. But ofcource you can use regular cooking pot as well. Simple and delicious!










Serve chana dal with steamed rice or zeera rice and a side raita. You could also serve it with rotis or naan along with cucumber raita. This Chana daal is easy weeknight dinner, make family meal time simple: quick, fresh and delicious.

Ingredients:


Chana daal 1 1/2 cups
Tomatoes 3-4 medium size
Ginger 1 tbsp
Garlic 1 tsp
Salt 1 tsp (to taste)
Red chili powder 1/2 tsp
Black pepper powder 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
Black cumin (kala zeera/shah zeera) 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek (qasoori methi) 1/4 - 1/2 tsp
Fried onion 2 tbsp (optional)
Oil 1/4 - 1/2 cup
Green chilies 8 -10
Cilantro 1/2 cup, chopped
Garam masala 1/2 tsp
Ginger 1 tbsp, Sliced
