Aloo Gosht | Potato and Meat Curry by morEwish

Aloo gosht is Pakistani/Indian Curry made with potatoes and meat... its very typical kind of dish which every house hold cook in their own way... today I am posting my recipe which I've learned from my mother..

First we make curry with traditional spices then add meat and potatoes and cook. for this recipe you can use any kind of meat, my mother-in-law used to cook it with chicken... Today I cooked it with mutton...so here goes the recipe... and the ingredients are:

Mutton 1 lb - (you can use any part - i used baby goat leg)
Potatoes 2-3 large
oil 1/4 cup ( i avoid using excess oil... but you can goes till 1 cup)
fried onion - 2 1/2 dish spoon ( or 2 medium sized onion sliced)
yogurt 1 cup
salt 1 tsp - or according to your taste
red chili pd - 1 1/2 tsp
coriander pd - 1tsp
turmeric pd - 1/4 tsp
garlic paste - 1 tsp
ginger paste - 1 tso
all spice pd (garam masala) - 1/2 tsp
cilantro - 4 tbsp

You can watch Video Tutorial:

To start with, wash meat and drain...

As i used pre-fried onion so what I did is... I add oil, fried onion, yogurt, salt, garlic paste, chili pd, coriander pd, turmeric in pot... mix it well with some water around 1/2 cup and switch on flame...

now if you are using raw onion... so the difference is heat oil and fry onion and then add all other spices

Now, blend everything in a pot.... you can blend everything in a jug blender and then pour it a pot

Now, Simmer and cover and cook till all spices release their taste and combine...and the clue is oil separates  and comes up...as picture below

then add meat...mix and cover and cook till meats changes it color and it get fried look

Add peeled and cubed potatoes

Add water... Question is how much.... add water that much runny gravy you want and then add 1 cup more for cooking... i added almost 3 cups... but it totally depends.... how watery you want the gravy

Cook covered till meat and potatoes get tender...now check the gravy if you think its too watery cook it on high flame and reduce water and if you think it needs water add some...

sprinkle garam masala, and cilantro and leave some for garnishing...stir and simmer for 3-4 minutes..and done

Garnish with cilantro and serve with boiled rice or naan and Enjoy.
