Prawn Biryani


Prawn Biryani is another version of biryani... sea food with biryani masala  is a good treat for biryani lovers and for sea food lover too... and its quick and easy to make...its a must try friends.. all you need:

rice 3 cups (750 gm)
bay leaves 2
cloves 4-5
black pepper corn 4 -5 
black cumin 1 tsp
white cumin 1 tsp

prawns 1 lbs 
tomatoes 2 big size chopped
fried onion 1/4 cup
yogurt 1 cup
red chili powder 1 1/2 tsp
coriander powder 1 tsp
turmeric 1/4 tsp
all spice powder 1 tsp
nutmeg powder 1/4 tsp
cardamon powder 1/4 tsp
salt 1 tsp for masala + 3 tsp for boiling rice (adjust to taste)
minced garlic 1 tbsp
ginger paste 1 tbsp
oil 1/4 - 1/2 cup
orange color mixed with 1/4th cup milk 

first boil rice with salt, bay leaves, cloves, pepper corns, black cumin and cumin till they are 3/4th done (1 kani)... 


drain the water and keep them aside 


now, in other pot heat oil, add garlic and ginger


add chopped tomatoes... and cook till oil comes up


add salt, red chili powder, turmeric, fried onion and coriander powder... till oil comes up


add washed shrimps... mix


add all spice powder, nutmeg powder and cardamon powder... mix and cook for 5 minutes...

shrimps doesn't need more cooking and please don't over cook them because it will make the prawns stretchy


now in other pot, spread half of the rice, then spread the shrimp mixture... then cover it with remaining rice


pour the milk mixture... cover and put the pot on griddle... cook on high flame till steam build in pot... simmer and cook covered till rice gets done (15 - 20 minutes)


dish out and sprinkle some fried onion... and serve :)
