Sonth - Imli Khajoor ki Chutney (Tamarind Dates Chutney)

Dried ginger is called Sonth in Urdu.... coming from a Delhi Wala background this is a kind of tamarind and dates chutney which has Sonth(dried ginger) in it... so somehow it got the name Sonth.... so today i am sharing my family recipe this khati methi chutney... try it and enjoy it in Ramadan... you need:

dates 1/2 cup
tamarind pulp 1/4 cup (i used bottled pulp because its kinda hard to find tamarind here... and that bottled tamarind pulp is bit more tangy so i used only 3 tbsp)
salt 1/2 tsp
cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
red chili flakes 1/2 tsp
dried ginger powder (sonth) 1/2 tsp

first take out seeds from dates

blend them with enough water to make a tick paste

in a pot add blended pulp and tamarind pulp

add around 1 cup of water, salt, chili flakes, ginger powder, and cumin seeds... mix well and cook on low heat

cook till you get thick ketchup like consistency, stir occasionally... switch off flame and let it cook

then pour it in clean sterilized bottle...

keep it in fridge for future use
