Kali Masoor Daal (Split Black Gram)

Yum, Yum Tangy Daal, again cooked in every household but everyone has their own family recipe, so today I am sharing mine:

kali masoor daal (split black gram) 1 cup
salt 1 tsp
red chili powder 1 tsp
turmeric 1/4 tsp
minced garlic 1 tsp
tomatoes 2 chopped

for Tarka (fried spices for garnishing)

oil 1/4 cup
onion 2 -3 tbsp sliced
cumin seeds (zeera) 1 tsp
whole red chilies 5 - 6

Wash and soak lentil for minimum half hour.... wash again add in pot with water

add salt, red chili powder, turmeric and chopped tomatoes.... cover and cook on low flame till lentil get tender, tomatoes get soft and well blended with lentil... you need to mash it bit in intervals with spoon... Final result would be mushy

when daal get done... separately heat oil, add onion and whole red chilies... fry till onion get golden color add cumin seed, give it a quick stir and pour over lentil

serve it with boiled rice
